I signed up for a 12 mile race. I was sick to my stomach signing up for this race because I honestly HATE running. (Note: I teach my kids to never say hate…. but since they don’t my website right now, I think we are safe). BUT, I am not a fan of running. There are a million things I would rather do…. and I think it’s mostly that it gets in my head. I don’t like knowing how much farther I have to go. I can be quick to talk myself out of something.
However, if I sign up, I am doing it. If I say I am going to do it, I am going to do it. Luckily I had a lot of people encouraging me and sending me tips.
A couple things I have learned about running…
(Thanks to all of my followers)
It doesn’t matter how slow or fast you go, it just matters that you are going.
Don’t look down, keep your head up!
Watch your posture and don’t slouch (I was guilty of that and now that I am aware, I feel so much better)
Buy good shoes, it makes all the difference.
Get a fan club. I have my fitness groups that cheer me on and encourage me and that helps me keep going (and my ego )
When you are a newbie, you just start. No perfect time or perfect weather, you just simply go out and run.
Track your time and not your miles. (That was a great suggestion from a friend because it gets in my head how many miles I go.)
You are only running against yourself, so just be better than you were before. You owe it to yourself .
Nutrition is important. What you fuel your body with matters.
Any run you do, no matter how sluggish you may be, totally counts.
Lastly, but most importantly, you are RUNNING. You are MOVING. You are doing something for YOU. You are doing SOMETHING. That alone makes you awesome.
Keep going, my friends.
And if you have trouble running for you, run for someone else….
